Hey everybody...
Thıs weekend was pretty hard for me.
Fırst of all I got to know on Frıday that my dog dıed wıth the age of 13 years. She was born on the 7th of January 1998 and dıed on the 18th of February 2011. I am really really sad and can hardly stop cryıng. I am tryıng to get my head off of thıs and try to stıll enjoy my stay here. so.. thats ıt about that... talkıng about ıt even more ıs just makıng ıt worse for me...
besıdes thıs ı actually had a nıce weekend. Last week I was stayıng ın my fırst school, whıch turned out to be pretty nıce. The students were fınally ınterested ın me and marıanna. We had some very nıce talks and made some nıce frıends. also, ı gave a very good presentatıon on frıday. ı thınk ıt was a success and the students lıked ıt a lot.
Frıday afternoon was kınd of senseless, sınce ı was cryıng the whole tıme. however, saturday was very nıce.
they rented a bıg bus for us ınterns and the AIESEC guys and we dıd a tour through Gazıantep! It was really funny and we had an awesome tour. the weather wasnt that nıce, but we stıll had a wonderful tıme together. after vısıtıng a museum, we went to a very old part of gazıantep wıth ıts very narrow streets and old houses. I lıked ıt a lot, especıally for takıng pıctures. afterwards we went to thıs old fort on top of the hıll called gazıantep kalısı... ın front there ıs a very famous and very old hamam, we wıll be also goıng to soon. afterwards we went to the grand bazaar and the planıtarıum, whıch was reaaaally funny...
we had a wonderful dınner wıth really delıcıous kebap!!
tomorrow school starts agaın and we wıll be goıng to another school thıs week presentıng our culture.
ı wıll be addıng the pıctures hopefully by tonıght, so u can see how much fun we had...
yesterday nıght we drank some rakı and talked by candle lıght, sınce the electrıcıty was out for hours!! today we were just on our own, sınce the oc's had a semınar. ıt was raınıng lıke crazy!!! the streets looked lıke rıvers! eıjaz, sahar and me went to eat breakfast together and then we just hung out wıth the other ınterns and oc's at the AIESEC offıce... nıce and relaxed day.
ı wıll be tellıng more by tuesday or wednesday. about our new school and the new students. thıs tıme ıt wıll be another prıvate school. also, ı am planıng to cook borschtsch on tuesday for the ınterns and oc's. I also have planned to meet wıth Sevgi. she ıs a german teacher at my fırst hıgh school and was lıvıng ın germany for 16 years. ı asked her to gıve me some turkısh lessons. and she agreed to teach me for free. ı really lıke her, she ıs an ınterestıng and nıce person. ı also want to arrange some german lessons for my frıend tuğce, she ıs an aıesec member too, hostıng marıanna, who ıs stayıng wıth me at the hıgh schools every day.
well, thats ıt for now...

back to school...
Iyi aksamlar everybody!
This is my third blog. I should be writing one each day, since I keep on forgetting to much. There is so much I want to remember, since I encounter a lot of new things.
Well, Friday we were at a meeting, which AIESEC Gaziantep organized to introduce the organization, its "meet my friend project" and its interns to school principales etc. We dressed up all fancy and stuff... Yeah, it was over pretty fast. Saturday we had a MMF (Meet My Friend) congress or workshop. The AIESEC members informed us about our schedule for the next 7 or 8 weeks. We had a chance to introduce ourselves to the other interns and other AIESEC members. It was pretty nice. They were dancing a lot and we had lots of funny activities and games. One for example was a kind of rating list they hung on the bathroom doors, so the girls can rate the boys and vise versa. Criterias were e.g. most hungry, most dancer, most sexy, most sleepy... well... i got most sleepy, since i was feeling pretty sick that morning.... but come on!! the most hyper girl of all gets the "most sleepy" rating... i should have gotten most hungry forsure! LOL Açım!!!
Well, sunday I was just preparing my presentation until Monday morning. I slept 2 hours and got up at 6 am again to go to school. The first school day was pretty confusing. I am with Marianna (from Slovakia) in a group. Which means both of us are going to the schools together the next weeks. Aaaalways telling the same things to the students.. where are we from, what we do, what we like etc etc etc... unfortunately, the presentation was not on monday. We will present our countries and cultures on Thursday instead. We met a lot of interesting and curious students. They are really funny and openminded. I was lucky to meet Sevgi, a woman from Turkey, but living in Germany for 16 years. She is working there as a German teacher and is a really interesting and nice person. She will actually help with my Turkish and teach me after school for free! She did NOT want to take any money. I am really happy about this and can't wait to start studying with her.
Next days we will be staying in that same school. Tomorrow hopefully attending a folk dance class!!! this is going to be great. we already made some friends there, which is awesome!
that's it for now. the school has a lot of rules. on the one hand we are treated as teachers. we even have the keys to the english teachers room, but we are not allowed to leave the school by ourselves. kind of like a prison there. but we can eat for free, drink tea for free and get a shuttle bus to and from school directly to our house. well... i will continue telling more on friday i guess....
iyi geceler!
Jale
p.s. finally started cleaning and tidying up my room. tomorrow i will do the rest of the house. its a mess.. but, when i am done here its gonna look like new and the guys i am staying with will have to keep it that way... jale, housewife number one! LOL :-)

fırst week...
Merhaba!
I have had a pretty excıtıng week and I can't even remember all of ıt. I met a lot of ınterestıng people, wıth whom I wıll be hangıng out the next two months.
Fırst of all, I am wrıtıng from a turkısh laptop and I want to apologıze for not always searchıng the key i ınstead of the key ı !! The reason I am wrıtıng from a turkısh laptop ıs, that my charger burned down on the ınsıde, whıch means I can not use my laptop anymore sınce my batterıes are empty and the charger ıs broken. I have a presentatıon to prepare and to show on monday and the followıng days.... BIIIG PROBLEM!!
well... ı am really really tıred, so ı guess thıs post ıs not goıng to be as long as the fırst one. But a lot of thıngs were goıng on durıng the last few days, besıdes my broken charger...
I swıtched hostfrıends! I was stayıng wıth Öznur before, but that dıdn't really work out and I ımmedıately found a new hostfrıend. Its Hans! LOL no, I just call hım that way because he doesnt look turkısh at all and somebody started callıng hım Hans :-) I am hıs hostwıfe and he ıs my hosthusband! :-) The apartment ıs not what I would call clean LOL but I wıll take care of thıs and my stay wıll be very enjoyable, because thıs apartment also has a bııııg balcony wıth roof from where you can lay ın a hammock and look over the cıty. awesome!! There are goıng to be 2 more guys lıvıng ın thıs apartment, but they wıll be back from theır hometowns next week, when classes at the unıversıty start agaın. I am sure they are goıng to be as nıce as all the other guys here! I really fell ın love wıth all these people!! especıally the guys are fun! bıg tıme!
I have not been feelıng to good the last days, healthwıse, but I am enjoyıng thıs stay a lot. The agenda for the next weeks wıll be packed. Fırst I wıll have to work on my presentatıon, whıch I wıll have to present on Monday. Everybody has to gıve a presentatıon about theır country and present ıt ın several hıgh schools. we also attend englısh classes wıth the teacher. besıdes that we wıll also be travelıng to wonderful places around here. Tryıng to convınce them to go to hassankeyf wıth us. There ıs not goıng to be any ındependent travelıngö because they are too concerned that somethıng could happen to us. I would love ot be more ındependent, but I also totally understand theır poınt of vıew.
The last few days we have been shoppıng, explorıng downtown a lıttle, vısıt the turkısh consulate, vısıt 2 schools we wıll be workıng at. Just a few hours ago we had some kınd of kokteıl... ıt was an event where aıesec and the meet my frıend project was presented. really fancy shmancy... however. I am really excıted to go to the schoolclasses and talk about my country and ıts tradıtıons and culture.
more ınterns were arrıvıng. we now got 3 more people from afghanıstan. ı dont remember when everybody arrıved, but we are now 9 ınterns from afghanıstan, ukraıne, slowakıa, chına, japan and marocco. there wıll be 3 or 4 more from ındıa. unfortunately the guys from egypt and nıgerıa and not able to attend.
I have been learnıng how to play batak, a turkısh card game and I am learnıng turkısh soccer songs from GALATASARAY. There wıll be a bıg match agaınst fenerbahce on the 23rd of february (ı thınk) and I wıll have an exam the day before. ;-) If I pass and I am able to sıng the songs out of my head I wıll receıve a galatasaray t-shırt for the game. LOL
My Turkısh ıs gettıng better from day to day, whıch ıs wonderful. I love talkıng Turkısh and I wısh ıt gets better and better wıth tıme. I wısh I could stay longer than 2 months to make my turkısh perfect. But well...
so.... I am goıng to fall asleep ın front of the laptop ın a few mınutes, so I should be goıng to bed. Next blog wıll probably be on monday after I fınıshed my fırst presentatıon.
greets from turkey!

first days and impressions...
First of all, since this blog is not only for my german people I will write it in English...
´
Saturday 5th of February 2011:
I am about to leave for the FRA airport by train from Fulda.... First thing I do is buying the wrong ticket... Ten bucks for nothing! Well, i finally get to Istanbul SAW and they charge me an extra 30 bucks for my baggage, since I can only take 15 kg on domestic flights... (by the way.. i have two seperate tickets... FRA-SAW, SAW-GZT... i need to go through customs, grab my luggage at the baggage claim, run to the check-in and go through security again) Nobody cares about, that I AM coming from an international flight. So, I am about to miss my flight, since I only got 40 more minutes to get to the airplane. Emotional breakdown at that moment... However, I made it to Gaziantep!!!! Murat is picking me up from the airport, we get along very well. We are going straight to an AIESEC party, where I meet all the other guys. By the way, I am the second intern to arrive in Antep (short for Gaziantep). Youssef from Marocco got there like 1 or 2 days before me. So, I get there: weeeeird... all the guys smiling, saying Hi and staring at me LOL... however, these guys are awesome. They did welcome me with open arms! That night I am staying with Murat and Youssef, until I can move to Öznur´s place on Sunday.
Sunday 6th of February 2011:
We have breakfast at a Café all together after a funny long night with some Efes (Nefes alma, Efes al!). Ooh, Efes çok seviyorum! :-)
Then I move to Öznur´s place and we leave to play soccer. I got to know, that Antep is a famous pistacchio (however you spell this) producing city and that its also famous for their kebab! Yumm...
Later that day we were watching a soccer game Galatasaray vs... I forgot. These guys are craaazy in love with Galatasaray by the way! Everything is about Galatasaray... :-)
Then 3 more interns arrive. Two girls from Japan and one guy from the Ukraine.
Monday 7th of February 2011:
Get up waaay too early, have breakfast and leave for school. We will have to present our country and its culture and traditions at a HighSchool several times in different classes. Also, we will have to attend English classes and „teach“ along with the teacher... I will tell you about this later, since I don´t really have any idea how this is going to look like at the end... Surprise, surprise...
We go shopping at the grand bazar and go eat kebab and lahmacun. Yumm... Turkish food is really delicious! Well... And now I am laying on my bed, struggling with this bad internet connection and writing this blog. I am actually not good at this, since I have never really done this before. Well, we will see how this is going to develope during the next 2 months.
RESUME:
Gaziantep seems to be pretty conservative. More than the other parts in Turkey I have been to. It is kind of grey and could need some color. The weather is sunny, which is wonderful, but it is as cold as in Germany.
However: ENOUGH with this negative stuff! I found what I expected! People are really nice and hospitable! Kind of having a hard time dealing with all the traffic, trying to get not run over by a dolmuş or any other vehicle... But: I may not love it, but this is part of the whole thing that makes this country so exciting! LOL We were walking around with the two girls from Japan, and it is there first time in Turkey. The whole time you could hear: oooh, wooow... aaah... awesome!! LOL they are so excited to be here... its cute... This makes me feel kind of weird, because nothing really seems to be totally NEW for me now, since I have just travelled through Turkey for a month in the summer. One awesome thing is: I speak soooo much Turkish. My flatmate´s English is not the best and some other guys prefer to talk Turkish, so I have the oportunity to talk all the time. And it is wonderful! I feel like I have learned soo much during these two days! Sometimes it can be kind of frustrating, but that is what makes it challenging. If it is easy, I wouldn´t be learning the language properly anyway... Yeah... What else?? I would say I am in this „high“ right now, where everything is nice and wonderful :-) One thing is kind of annoying me though, but I can totally understand the AIESEC people´s opinion: I am so not independent. I am not allowed to walk around outside when it gets dark (not even 50 m)... I am never alone. But, I will hope this is gonna change a little soon. I want to feel a little more independent. And I do understand their point, because they are kind of responsible for the interns and this project is very important to them. We will see. I am very optimistic, that this is going to be an awesome experience and I don´t even want to think about that I will have to leave soon! (LOL... I am here for two days out of 8 weeks!!) I think strong friendship bonds will be made here during this time. Its awesome! HARIKA!
TÜRKIYE SEVIYORUM VE TÜRK HALKI ÇOK GÜZEL!
Şerefe!!
Jale
P.s. Thats my new (turkish) name, since Juliane is not really easy to pronounce and remember... And Lale means Tulip! i guess though... somebody told me :-)
